Today i got this case, its a German 5,5 cm Experimental case, if you look at the pictures you see the drawing number on the base of the case, I think this is one of the few cases that has the same base as the 5 cm Flak 41, except for the small primer. Normally you see this case with the small base. So i am very happy that i got this one, the case is made in 1944, and made by the company AUX. On the case you see 5 very small holes, it means that they have reload this case 5 times. The lenght of the case is 230 mm.

Excellent find Ben and thank you for sharing the pictures.

It is a short case so what was the logic behind this research, was it for a BK gun?

Here you can see the different size between the 5,5 cm and the 2 cm MG 151-20 case, Ben

Very nice one Ben!

Looking at my list of projects, the 5.5cm rounds are divided into low and high-velocity types. This is obviously a low-velocity one given the case dimensions but it clearly isn't the MK 112 (55x175RB) or the recoilless MK 115, which leaves two possibilities:

Krupp MK 412 (700 m/s, 300 rpm)
Krupp BK 413 (600 m/s, 260 rpm, twin-barrel gun)

Both guns were scheduled for their first firing in 1944, the MK 412 in June and the BK 413 in April.

Ben, do you think you could send me high-res photos and detailed measurements for the ECRA Bulletin?
