The pics below are of a 40mm L/60 Bofors round in my collection. I know very little about fuzes, but this one looks like a (Type 914?) air compression fuze I have seen on a 30 x 86B Low Velocity Aden round. Can anyone comment?
what info I have is that the No 914 Fuse Perc DA ball rotor for the 30mm introduced 1952, the No 915 Fuse Perc DA 30mm Aden gun HE - failed trials - cancelled 1953, hope this may help. I have in my collection a 30mm aden L/V experimental /ally cased round with the no 914 (obviously inert) cheers womble
This appears to be just a standard pre-war or early WW2 brass No. 250 percussion fuze (with components missing) on the steel spacer/adapter. Someone has tapped the top of the fuze. 250 fuzes were used on UK 40mm Bofors ammunition in 1938, 1939 and 1940 with the more recognisable No. 251 fuze adopted in 1940/41.
The fuze is brass. The section you are referring to as the tip is the entire fuze. The steel part is just a spacer/adapter. Refer drawings from Bofors gun handbook.
