4.6 x 30

I got this a while ago on one of those days when I just couldn't find something to buy and just had to get something........you know how it goes sometimes:tinysmile_angry_t:!! It several hundred times smaller than the usual shells I buy. Delving into the cartridge list the only thing I can find listed as 4.6 x 30 is a Heckler and Koch assault rifle (Perhaps someone can confirm that is right please). It just brings it home to you how small a bullet can be and still kill you. This one has a solid plastic projectile that appears to run the lengh of the case. IT has no primer and is all inert etc and presumably some sort of dummy.
A couple of photos attached, one of which is shown next to a .700 nitro express projectile for scale.
Headstamp is:
RG
00
4.6 * 30
Dave.

Hi Dave,
there is a write up on this round on Radway Greens site (BAE systems)
seems to have been intended as a personal weapon for rear line troops, quite impresive penetration.

Yes, the HK MP7 is actually in British service (with the Military Police) as well as the German and Norwegian armies. Radway Green developed the ammo with HK, but no longer makes it (production volumes not high enough). It is made by Fiocchi, RUAG and Hornady.

You can read more about the 4.6mm and other Personal Defence Weapons and their ammo in my web article here: http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/PDWs.htm

Incidentally, HK did make an experimental assault rifle in 4.6x33 calibre, but that is an entirely different round.

Tony,
An excellent and informative article. Thank you for putting it on the site.
Best regards,
Guy.
