I've had this round for years. Have an odd feeling I'm being a bit thick but can't work out what it is.
I don't even know if the projectile is correct for the case.
Any help in identifying it would be appreciated.
I've included a few photographs, one next to a M16 case for scale.
All INERT etc.
Thanks.
Dave.

The headstamp is
1938
R2
MB
and a thing that looks like a crown with a cross above it.

There is a huge amount of stencils on the case as follows:
A1139
37 mrkrv27/30 K/36P
isSR/41-27/30
47 VRT 36/41
Vo 453m/Sek
pn 13/16
AV1070562 ET

The projectile has stamping on the band as follows:
ETH
1
BTN62

The projectile has stencling as follows:
37G
TNT
SHELL M63
AMM - LOT
1_BT 62

The rim diameter is 56mm
Case length is 256mm
Calibre 37mm

Not at all certain, but looks like the Polish 37mm Bofors wz36 ATK ???....and the case re-marked after the war?
Obviously the projectile is identical to the US 37mm HE M63, and possibly in the wrong case

See the 4th case in from left in picture on Tonys Website ---> http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/tank1.jpg

Evening Dave your case is a 37mm Bofors but a Swedish one not Polish .The gun was originaly deveoped in Sweden by Bofors ,used by the Swedish Army and sold to Poland and us Brits [We bought a number of the guns when it was realised we were short of AT guns in 1938-39]In the pics my Swedish 37mm Drill and a Polish 37mm case just acquired from another BOCN member [thanks Erik] regards Dave

I believe the case is Finland, not Sweden. There was a recent thread about this, I will see if I can find it.

Yes, the case is Finnish. The same was recently asked on this forum. Projectile is totally incorrect to this round.

Thanks everyone, that's great.
Next question - does anyone have a spare projectile?:tinysmile_hmm_t:
If so I'd be interested in buying it or trading it.
Dave.

Here Finnish HE and AP-rounds. Sorry Dave but almost impossible to find the shells in these days.

Finnish Army surplus stores had original Polish brass cases for sale still recently.

Yes, the same. Most of these cases on market came from Finnish surplus sales in the past years.
I have to see which years I have on those I have in stock.

Incredible. Here in the battlefields you can find the shells, bt not the cases, all destroyed. Shells from very bad to regular condition, but no cases at all.

Thanks Tmine35, I'm hopefully (you said almost :tinysmile_hmm_t:) There'll be one out there somewhere.
Dave.

Big Dave, if I understand correctly, the head stamp on the right with the letter "P" ink stamped on it is Polish. Correct? Ihave one like it except where yours says WA2-29-37, mine says FA2-37. I doubt I will ever find a projectile for it but I'm looking.....

Hiya Hubert,

As the case's former owner I can tell you beyond a doubt that yours is Polish alright. :p
As for projectiles.... Lemme see if I can come up with one; it might be a tall stretch, but who knows...
[added to the search list]

Cheers,
Olafo
