30mm Aden Round.....

Darren

Well-Known Member
Here i have a recent purchase, a 30mm Aden round but the markings are a little different to what are on all of my other examples. My other examples are clearly stamped PRAC or HE or AP but this one is not.

Projectile stamped: RG 54 8 A R E

Inside of the case groove stamped: 30MM.R.G.54

There are no stampings above the grove on this case, no primer. The fuze/dummy nose cone? unscrews easily and is hollow.

Any info on the markings would be great, any other info on what type of round this is would be great.

Cheers,
Darren

Sounds like a dummy made up for the A.R.E., the Armament Research Establishment, Fort Halstead.

The markings in the extractor groove are those of the case maker, i.e. ROF Radway Green 1954. Any markings on the belt are those of the loading station, including the load type. Since yours has neither primer or markings it has never been loaded. It is probably an experimental Proj. made by RG in 1954.
