3.7 AA, T98 SPECIAL, scratch ticket

I found this box interesting. I drove an hour to pick up what I thought was a really nice box. When I first saw it, well you can see it's in rough shape. Not original paint as was told, but bought it anyway. The black paint was over the stencilling so i carefully scratched and flaked off the black paint to see what was there. Like a 4 hour long scratch lotto of sorts, slowly revealing the prize.
A couple of test rounds with the new VT T98 fuze? Too bad its in such bad shape, but at least we knowv212 001.jpgv212 002.jpgv212 003.jpgv212 004.jpgv212 005.jpg what was inside at one time. Any other info about regarding this or any guesses as to what the rest might say on the really rough parts? Cheers, SHAKY

The original paint I think was gray. There are a few remnants of it in a few places and under some of the lettering. The box at some time was painted black overall. When I brought it home I could get it in the light just right to see what the markings said, then I started picking away at it to reveal the yellow painted words underneath. I think this was during 1944 testing of the poximity fuse T 98, a British design manufactured for them by the U.S. I think this became the fuze M 94? Can you tellme if this is a U.S. or British container ? Just trying to guess at where this testing would have taken place. Thanks, Will

Looks like a C235 and British (Canadian?) made. Have a look in the recess of the lid, mine is very finely stamped and a couple of layers of paint might fill the letters up. Cheers hangarman

Thanks Hangarman, CTB/CC235 I 1944 ? This is what is heavily stamped in the middle of the lid. Does this help. SHAKY

Hi Shaky, if its CTB/C then it could well be Canadian, but I am unsure of the manufacturer. C is for QF fixed ammunition, 235 I is 235 mk 1, made in 1944. Cheers Hangarman. Must learn to type faster. Thanks Tim G for the manufacturer!

Thanks for the history TimG. Im not too far away from where the box was built. I wish I could decipher what was written where the paints is mostly missing. I"ll stare at it a bit longer. Anybody have a spare T98 fuze to spare ? it would look good ontop of my 3.7 H.E. :stupido3:

Would these 3.7mm AA catridges possibly been tested here ? If so, what proving grounds here in Canada might these be ?

Does anyone know what packing or packaging was inside a 3.7 AA box? I can't believe the rounds just clattered about inside... Cheers Gary
