20mm Oerlikon ammunition crate

This clean example turned up in Australia, what has me wondering is that the red inner box label mentions belt fed? I have never heard of a belt fed 20mm Oerlikon other than the Swiss & Japanese versions. Has anyone got a specimen of the 20mm x 110 RB belt or links please???

An interesting crate. I agree that magazines usually fed the Oe cannons but check the WIKI info I include.
I am not sure if this info is correct.
I have MF 1943 OeZ and 1945 cases in my collection which may have been loaded at St.Marys. These are hard to find.

Thanks Slick, I have a 5 round section of this canvas belt & am still unsure what it is for. I have put a 20 x 110RB Oel DRILL rnd. next to it for comparison. Has anyone got reference to this type of belt being used for 20mm Oerlikon please?
Thanks, Ozzi.

Most likely a generic label for that style of packaging ( 20mm Hispano/Oerlikon), the Oerlikon using the 20 x 110rb round was never belt fed. I have seen plenty of Oe 20mm out there in belts, but that's because they will fit and look cool, so effectively belt stuffers. The Wiki reference probably referes to the later post war Oerlikon models., so not wrong, but also not right!.

I doubt very much if that is a generic box label, the last thing you want is to get your Oerlikon mixed up with your Hispano ammo in the heat of battle! There seems to be 2 sources of the belt reference now, the red box inner label & the WiKi reference! (although I don't give a lot of credence to internet info for accuracy)! Further more the filler details dates it 1945. Regards Ozzi.

I meant a repurposed generic box with some new markings, ie, like the US 37mm boxes used for local production 12g shell in NZ.
I see the label refers to greasing the cartridges, that was a big no-no in the Commonwealth services and a requirement in the USA!
