Hi
I have a spent 20mm cartridge case with the following stamped on the body not the head , all the other ones I own or have seen have not got this, does anyone know the meaning of the code.

BMRC 17 P 51 BL IZ

The headstamp is 50 at the 12'o clock position and 20mm at the 6'O clock position.

Have so far found that BMRC stands for the British Manufacturing and Research Company and may have been filled 1950, put into service in 1951?

Thanks

Mark

The case was made in 1950 (as per the headstamp) and the stamping on the side is the filling station data. Are you sure that there is only the "50" and the "20 MM" on the headstamp? There should be a manufacturer (RG or ST probably)

Thus it was loaded at BMARC in 1951 as a Ball Mark Iz. The other numbers are Lot data.

Unusual to have the date at 12 o'clock,as you say TonyE they usually have a manufacturers code at 10 o'clock and the date at 2 o'clock and of course 20mm at 6 o'clock

Cheers

Hi
Thank you both for the comments on the post, had a look under my magnifying glass at the headstamp may possibly be a 4 there but can't be sure.
