About a month and a half ago i was offered some links from a very kind and accomodating member of bocn situated in America .This story has nothing to do with this member who was very helpful and brilliant to deal with. The parcel with boxes of 20mm hispano links made it half way across the America and to our green and pleasant shores in about five days not bad thinks me, as i track it feeling quiet smug .Then nothing for about two weeks so a quick phone call to parcel force and it will all be sorted thinks me . How utterly wrong can you be, the lady on the phone informed me that the parcel was fire arms related and in customs awaiting destruction.I tried to explain that the contents were only metal links and of no threat to anyone, she said that she would talk to customs and ring me back.Thirty days passed with phone calls back and forth i was getting nowhere, then i was out in the garden and to my supprise two armed police officers yes armed lent over the gate and said is mr rudge there we would like to ask you a few questions.Give them there due they were very nice and helpful even if they insisted on coming in and looking at all of my collection and asking me if it was inert and did i need a licence, and was i an arms dealer.I showed them what was in the parcel and they were happy to inform customs to release it , they seemed genuinly fasinated about the rounds in my collection and asked me what they were as they had no idea. The end of the story and just to kick you when your down 37 days after entering this country parcel force told me i could pick the parcel up as they couldnt deliver it as there was 18.61 duty to pay

Well, so much for the "good deal", huh? Nearly doubling the cost of the contents via taxes. And not even counting the grief created by being "inspected". Arses.

Hi rick thanks a million for the stuff , the best part is it was the good old usa customs that put a $33 export charge on it not uk customs go figure .Seemed like a good idea at the time how can you charge an export duty levy on 60year old goods?

Wow! An export duty charge. First I'd heard of that.

Be aware, I self edited my comments regarding the assessed charges, for fear of having said officials come knocking on my door. Sh1t's gettin' out of hand.

Apparently if an item that is not made in the usa is exported out of the usa they charge duty on it, had the same thing with a pair of harley davidson boots.Bit late to worry about them knocking on my door lol
