Nice rounds Bob. I can't see from the photos but would I be right in assuming the one with the plue projectile is the 15.5mm round?
Spotter, in the 1970's it was felt something was needed to fill the gap between the 12.7X99 and the 20mm guns the reason being that the .50" AP projectiles couldn't penetrate the Russian light armoured vehicles at over 300 metres distance. The guys in FN thought they could build a larger machine gun that wasn't much heavier than the .50" Browning and a lot cheaper than the 20mm cannons so the BRG-15 (Browning 15mm) started life in 1981. After much testing the project failed. In June 1987 a decision was taken that a new catrtridge would be used, the 15.5 X 106.
The 15.5 X 106 was designed in 1986/87 by the FN factory in Belgium for its new BRG-15 heavy machine gun. Test firing began in 1988 and the gun and ammunition worked well HOWEVER the change in Ease/West relations and general cuts in military budgets didn't help the project and it was cancelled in about 1992.
Just for clarification, the first version of the FN gun was chambered for the 15x115 cartridge, which was based on a necked-down 20x110 Hispano case. The later 15.5x106 was based on a necked-up version of the fatter Russian 14.5x114 case.
