155mm? projectile identification

I'm thinking earlier - maybe as old as WW I time frame, but don't have my files with me to check

It isn't the 155mm Illum, the ogive is the wrong radius. Do you have any info about the threads in the nose. Your other options are 6 inch Navy, but it would have to be earlier because it isn't the right radius of ogive for the WWII projectile. Also, what is the separate piece on the very top that doesn't look rusted like the rest?

Can you give us the dimensions of your shell ?

(Length, width of driving band, distance between driving band and bottom,...)

I'd wait for the measurements. Photo perspective - especially on painted vs unpainted rounds - has thrown me off before. Just a little bit of angle can make something look like a completely different round. I see exactly what you are talking about but - fool me once.... The most likely round would be the illum, there are a lot of them out there. Elimintate the likely, then start the hard searches.

Update:

Fuze MT M565 is way too big for the well.

Fuze, Frankfort Arsenal, 21 second is the correct size and TPI (looks to be) screws in a few turns and stops.

It may be influenced by rust or pitting, but the base of the projectile is an exact 6 inches.

Hazord. What you are seeing is an illusion, as the entire projectile is a uniform rust/newly applied OD green.

Fuze well threads are in the white and smooth. 21 second FA time fuze is not intended for installation into this projectile.

155mm-Illuminum-M118.jpg Inside the projectile's ogive, there is a shelf exactly as pictured in the image. There are four broken shear pins on the base of the projectile as well.
