13mm projectile

looking for a positive id for this 13mm AP projectile(yes I know it's a AP,but it's 'covered'....so no lectures about sec 5 please).
I first thought it might a 13mm T18/TuF projectile but it does come out as 13mm dead on the verniers, T18 is 13.2mm in any case(pun intended) and is too short above the cannelure (which is wrong for a T18) but has a correct overall length.
The ogive is wrong for a 50 BMG,also too long and fat!

Photograph shows this projectile next to a T18/Tuf and 50BMG AP projectiles...........help!

Hmm - have re-read your post 1 looks like you may have covered the german option;
How about a 12.7mm projectile?
Technically these are 12.98mm diameter. Have you calibrated your measuring tool (vernier/micrometer?):

I checked the drawings for some possible candidates, mainly to eliminate them

The 13.2mm Hotchkiss has a proj. diameter of 13.46mm (.530") and the 13.3mm BSA 13.51mm (.532")

Depending whether the length and weight match, I think the best bet is a Vickers Class D High Velocity AP proj. The drawing gives the AP diameter at .512", exactly 13.0mm. Length is 2.427L - 2.467H inches and weight is 770 grains. Cannelure is 1.46" from bullet tip. (From Kynoch drawing BK101/154A dated 4 December 1931).

There was also a shorter bullet at 2.18" long and 690 grains but yours looks like the longer one.

Some Class D rounds shown.

Thanks to all....looks like you have solved this one TonyE,the projectile is exactly 13mm.....I'll have to keep my eyes out for the cases next time:wink:

Cheers

Tha applies only to WWI production.

?????.....a bit lost now with yours and Hasags posts,the second projectile in the 'group' photo is from a 1918 dated ground recovered German T18 from Belgium.....I have never seen one wearing shorts,they have always been totally naked...if you don't count the jacket that is:wink:
