Hi need some advice please , i have seen an inert fired? 120mm chieftain tank projectile for sale i asked about it if it comes apart to show its empty , and they have never had it apart , it looks like a practice squash head , but i am a bit weary of buying it the picture i have attached is the add one, not the best quality !!! i have asked for more info on it and better pictures , but to be honest i fell if the seller cant tell me its 100% empty and inert i dont want to buy it .

cheers Ken

Dont know much about these but I thought practice was blue. The threaded cap in the top if it unscrews would let you see inside but practice would be filled with wax to make the weight. Hopefully someone here will know what red body signifies.

120mm base.jpgCheck the base, if it is slightly recessed and flat across the base is it SH/Prac (Right in the photo). If it has a open portion so that the fuze can be seen it is HESH (left in the photo).

Thanks ammocat it has got the prac base with a P on the body of projectile I will know more in a few days

Cheers ken

I have one of those in my garage somewhere. My one is unfired but doesn't have the bottom bit on, just the threads. Mine has also been chromed at some point, I imagine for a flashy display piece of some sort.
How much did you pay for yours?

Hi I've just paid 40 for it ? Not to sure if that was good ?
Are you selling your one ? these are the pictures i have untill delivery , its in great condition , needs to be restored though , with the base plug

Cheers Ken

Thanks pointblank0 look forward to seeing the pictures chromed reminds me of my aunty , we were based in derby for my dads last posting and someone poped an inert 36 mills in her had bag at the camp , caused a big fuss , because when she got home thats when she noticed and called my dad , it was checked out , someones joke. to this day we dont know who done it? but the grenade was chromed by the Army and presnted to her , lol it looks great not seen her in years but she still has it after 30 years
i would say it would make a good desktop Ornament , intresting projectile mate .

cheers ken
