Perhaps it was to install an electronic performance monitor/device as its practice??
Only a guess?

cheers

mmmmmmmmm waff no no no..stop guessing mate The colour blue indicates this is a practice round ..these normally get smegged on targets and then we find them and they get scrapped just like whats gonna happen to this one,,,The fillings are normally a resin waxy stuff and thats it, to simulate the weight of a live round, they are used for practice as they are much cheaper to produce.

Update still looking for info on what the screws are for ..

Hi all, we where all looking in wrong direction. This is a 106mm recoiles rifle projectile and the pins are locating pins to put it in the barrel so the pre-engraved driving band goes in the right way in the barrel. If you look at the driving band you can see it is pre-engraved becaus it is missing the normal damage which normal tank round have when fired. Also most HESH for the 105mm have two driving bands. See the two documents of the american one. As a lot of coutrys make them it is unclear which yours is.
