1.5" Wooden Baton Round

One of my favourite pieces in my collection. It's an original 1.5" L1A1 wooden Baton Round, designed for use in Hong Kong around 1965. Beside it is an experimental 1.5" Irritant case filled in November 1965 by SPRA. The irritant case had an 'unstepped' case and was adapted by lathe turning the L1A1 to a smaller outer diameter with step, and the wooden baton projectile has a black rubber obturation 'O' ring with a shellac seal above the ring. Cases manufactured at Radway Green in 1964.

Interesting items, it's the first time I have seen a wooden baton, I think the earliest ones I have are dated 1968, and 69, rubber and irritant. I do have a card cased 1.5" baton round dated 1959, the baton is made of some kind of resin, very hard and nasty !

Thanks very much for that, 1.5"/38mm Baton Rounds are my main interest so I scoured the forum for info on them as soon as I joined! Your early items sound interesting, would it be possible to show a photo of them? The L1 series (all wooden) were solely for use in Hong Kong, never having been used in the UK. Due to the severe lack of info about them and the way they're marked, I'm convinced these were designed or at least assembled at Unit level in the Hong Kong garrison. I've read about a similar round with a metal ring instead of the rubber one, which I take to be the L1A2.
