That is a 4.5 inch adaptor, not 5.25 inch. After firing the last round the breech was held open against spring pressure by the "Catches retaining breech block open". This adaptor was rammed into the breech, tripping the CRBBO's, allowing the breech to close and relieving the spring tension. A live primer could also be screwed into the adaptor for firing circuit testing before a shoot.gravelbelly
