A modified Cart.50 for use with the Rocket Wrench, electrically initiated at distance. This particular cart is marked experimental and a lot of those used for training in the late 80's early 90's were.

As I understand it the rocket wrench used two such cartridges. The type pictured is what I knew as ammo for the .50" De-armer, a means of firing a chisel at the junction of a shell and its fuze, to remotely and safely remove the fuze, allowing the HE shell and its filling to be disposed of in slow time, with less sandbagging needed if only the fuze were still to be destroyed. Those of us who were based at Catterick in late 1989 used some of these in that way on a training / demolition day. The breech of the weapon could be unscrewed and the cartridge wires fed through the base of the breech, with the seat of the cartridge in the base end of the breech. The breech was then screwed onto the barrel of the weapon, with the one-shot chisel inserted into the forward end of the barrel.

The de armer set usually had a chisel slug, a straight flat one and the ubiquitous forked slug! (certainly in the 80s and up at least), The forked slug being developed to tackle the Russian AVDM Long Delay fuze . the fork pulled the plunger back out when fired, stopping the timer. Rocket wrench had option to use the elec cart above or a regular 50 cal (de bulleted of course) initiated by det cord to the base. That dusted the grey matter off alittle ! hope its of use.
