I thought I'd give the Hammerite rust removal stuff a challenge.
Attached are a few photos of before and after.
Just mix it with 1 part rust treatment solution to 10 parts water and leave the lump or rust soak for a week.
Job done!! No rust, no hard work.
It seems the springs were a bit rusty because they completely vanished!!
The interesting thing is the bit sticking through the middle of it is the BOTTOM of the arming spindle - I'd expect the top of the spindle to be the part that was left.
Dave.

Thanks guys, yes well pleased.
It works best on rust that is clean if that makes sense. If its got oil all over it you have to degrease it first.

Superb Dave, cheers for the info. Im off to the shops...................

Is it told on the Hammerite tin which chemical components there are?

Hi, no I suspect they are trying to keep it secret.
The liquid is very gentle on paint but tough on rust.
Its by far the easiest treatment I have come across for rust.
Dave.

OK, I was just curious as this product is not available here. After trying several methods I'm working myself now with oxalic acid and am fully satisfied with it.

That looks really good stuff Dave.
I wonder if its a bit quicker if you heat it a bit? Is it expensive?
